The BIRU Social Work team identified in 2012 that there were increasing numbers of children in both the acute inpatient and community outpatient setting that were struggling to adjust to the impact of having a family member with a brain injury Our Aims and Objectives: Identify these children as young carers and ensure they have a voice and are heard Educate these young carers about brain injury and the changes that can occur after a family member has a brain injury. Discuss the changes and challenges they have experienced and improve their support & coping strategies Identify & reduce the adverse health effects of caring on these young carers
